2023 Bedroom Design Trends Refresh for Any Budget – Bedroom Decor Makeover

This 2023 bedroom makeover is the exact bedroom design trend refresh that we needed in this house! If you’ve been following me for some time, you might remember what this bedroom looked back in September of 2020 from this blog post here. Three years later I am still so thrilled with the furniture we purchased! It truly stands the test of time and all I need to do every now and then is give our room a refresh! Let me walk you through exactly what I did.

This bedroom makeover features muted colors and neutrals and I’m here to show you how to decorate using luxury looks for less. Let’s dive in!

How to Update a Neutral Headboard with a Rug or Throw

One of the best places to start for a bedroom is with a neutral linen tufted headboard. This particular headboard falls at just the right height for our room since there is a window above our bed. And for some reason it just felt like it needed those winged sides.

Did you know you can update the look of your neutral headboard anytime to stay on trend (and do it on a budget) by simply adding a rug or throw over your headboard? I simply added this Checkered Beni Ourain Rug over the top of the headboard to give it a cozier look, while drawing your eye upward to make it more of a statement piece.

Choosing new bedding for a 2023 bedroom refresh

When it came time to picking out the bedding I wanted to soften things up so I started with this Legends Luxury™ Velvet Flannel Duvet Cover, color Alabaster and Legends Luxury™ Harmony Velvet Quilt, color Taupe to start with a neutral and cozy base that would last for years to come. I added these Legends Luxury™ Harmony Velvet Quilted Shams, color Taupe, this Company Cotton™ Voile Quilt, color Cedar for an added layer and this Cotton Fleece Blanket, color Suede. We know pillows make all the difference to give you that luxury feel so I finished off the bedding with this Neutral Hemp hand woven Pillow Cover  and this Printed Linen Bolster Pillow Cover.

Choosing Nightstands and Bedroom Lamps

After we purchased these Magnolia Home 30″ tall nightstands with 3 drawers of storage, I knew I wanted to look for new lamps that were neutral — but I wanted a lamp base that had earthy, aged texture and an eye-catching shape to it. I chose these Calabria Reggio Table Lamps from Bellacar to add an essential layer of light while also adding much needed texture to the wooden dresser.

I also wanted more light to reflect into the room to make the space seem larger and more expansive. I love the way the morning light reflects off this tall, arched panel floor mirror. I originally had picked these metal arched floor mirrors out, but instead made my own DIY version — find the tutorial here.

Choosing a Neutral Bedroom Rug

I’m a huge fan of layering my rugs — so it’s no surprise that I kept the base layer rug as this Chunky Wool Jute Rug from Pottery Barn. To add another layer of texture and color to really ground the furniture in the room I added this Amber Lewis x Loloi Billie Collection BIL-06 Tobacco/Rust Rug on top. It gives the room added sophistication without being distracting if it were a floral or patterned rug.

I hope you enjoyed this 2023 bedroom refresh that features a neutral style, ample storage, cozy bedding and is my new favorite room in the house.

Let me know — are you going to update your bedroom?
