Earthy Neutral Guest Bedroom – One Room Challenge – Week 2

Here we are at week 2 of the One Room Challenge. Not a lot of measurable progress has been made this week, but nonetheless, the project is moving in the right direction. I’ve spent some time removing extra furniture from the room and getting it cleared out. The DIY skinny bench is also off to a great start and I hope to have it wrapped up by next week. I also settled on a paint color for the walls. Overall a productive week for sure!

CHOOSING THE PAINT COLOR

I just broke a personal record this week for the least amount of paint swatches EVER! That’s right folks… ONE… just ONE paint sample went up on these walls and it’s perfect. Done! Sherwin Williams Shoji White is the winner! This never ever happens to me ‑ I’m usually 6 or 7 paint samples deep by now. It looks like I’ll be starting to paint in the near future.

PAINT COLOR INSPIRATION

The inspiration for my paint color choice comes from Studio McGee and their Pine Brook Home project. They used Sherwin Williams Shoji White on the walls with Sherwin Williams Alabaster on the trim. We currently have SW Alabaster on our trim and ceilings throughout our house, so using SW Shoji White seemed like the perfect complement to our existing trim color. And if Studio McGee did it, you know you can’t go wrong!

DIY SKINNY BENCH

The DIY skinny bench is so close to being finished. The wood has been aged, the bench is pretty much built, and now I just need to narrow down some stain options. I’ll have some more details on the bench in week 3 of the challenge and hopefully some finished pictures too.

I’ll be sharing my progress on my Instagram feed and in stories, so you can follow along there as well. And be sure to check out the other ORC participants and their projects here.

  1. I’ve literally sampled 8-10 paint colors, yikes! My Sister recommended Shoji White- so glad I stumbled across your blog, this room is beautiful!!

    1. Thank you Amy! I seriously love this wall color! Especially paired with the alabaster trim, it’s the perfect combo. Good luck with your painting project!

    1. I used the Sherwin Williams Emerald in a matte for the walls. Our trim was already done in Sherwin Williams Cashmere low luster. Hope that helps!

  2. Hi Erin. Love your work! I’m looking for a whole house wall and trim paint combination. I first stumbled upon Studio McGee and fell in love with the colors in the master on the Pine Brook house. It says the wall color is Alabaster. But when I found your page you mention that the walls are Shoji white and the trim is Alabaster. I don’t want to make the wrong move. Could you please help?

    1. From what I researched the Studio McGee room had Shoji white walls and Alabaster trim, but I have no way to know for sure if that is what they used. That is definitely what I did in our room.
