Our Master Bedroom

For the first time in a long time (like 5 years!) our master bedroom feels finished. It’s a nice reminder that a home takes time. For most of us, everything doesn’t happen all at once. I am looking forward to sharing all of the details with you today.

THE HEADBOARD

We opted for a neutral linen tufted headboard. This particular headboard falls at just the right height for our room since there is a window above our bed. And for some reason, it just felt like it needed those winged sides!

THE NIGHTSTANDS AND DRESSER

I think this is the first time in my life I’ve actually purchased nightstands and a dresser! I usually end up with Craig’s List finds or DIYs. For some reason, this time, it just felt right to purchase something.

I fell in love with the Magnolia Home Architectural Scaffold collection by Joanna Gaines. I was looking for pretty sizable nightstands that were enclosed and these fit the bill at 30” wide. The dresser was also the perfect size for the wall space opposite our bed. Unfortunately, this collection is no longer available. I did find some similar nightstands linked here and dresser linked here.

THE BEDDING

My plan with our bedding was to keep it really simple. The simpler it is, the easier it is to make the bed every morning. This means one throw pillow. That’s right; just one long lumbar pillow is all that is used here.

I’ve also refrained from having too many unnecessary layers. The quilt, duvet cover, and shams are a Belgian linen fabric that we love. As much as I enjoy a light and bright bedroom, I am also loving the dark and moody right now. Perhaps in the spring I’ll do a little bedding refresh and swap out a few pieces for a light and bright look.

THE READING CORNER

This little corner of the room was a perfect spot for a reading nook. A comfy chair and a small side table were all that it needed. This might be my favorite spot in the house— it’s always flooded with natural light.

THE MIRRORS

I had been looking for two floor-length mirrors to finish off our master bedroom for quite some time. The Pottery Barn Distiller Arched Metal Mirror was the perfect option, but to get two of them (at $799 each) was not going to happen. In the end, I used the Pottery Barn version as my inspiration to create my own mirrors. You can read all about my DIY mirrors in this blog post.

I sincerely hope everyone takes the time to create a master bedroom that they love, even if it takes years to complete! It’s a space you can go to escape from the rush of the day and to recharge for the next.

  1. Your master bedroom is beautiful! Is your bed the same as the headboard you have listed?

Also, do you have specifications for the dark grey quilt?

  2. Are the items you linked to the ACTUAL items used? The link to the duvet cover and stand does not have the ties on the side seen on your photo.
Also you link to a headboard, but this pic is clearly a bed?
Love your design, wondering if links have changed or something?

    1. Thank you Leah! I try to link everything exactly, but so things do run out of stock over time. Here is a link to the exact headboard/bed combo, in the linen talc color: https://rstyle.me/+LixUKohXm-p1TRV2CBpb5g
Unfortunately I know the duvet cover/shams have been out of stock for some time now, so I doubt they are coming back. They are the West Elm Belgian linen duvet/shams. This is probably the closest option, in the natural color, just doesn’t have the dark border available anymore:

  3. would love to know about the dresser. the drawers aren’t on a track right? if you use it frequently is that frustrating?

  4. Love your design and how you put the bedroom together. Really like the layered rug look. Is your carpet low or medium pile? I’m debating whether or not to get a rug for our master bedroom as we have a plush, medium-pile for our carpet. What would you recommend?

    1. Thank you so much! I would say our carpet is medium pile. To me, it was more about the look. I love layering rugs whether that be on hardwoods or carpet. I think it all depends what look you are going for. They do make a rug pad for rugs over carpet too, but I haven’t noticed many issues with our rug moving around.
