Earthy Neutral Guest Bedroom – One Room Challenge – Week 1

This One Room Challenge event is addicting y’all! I just finished my first ever One Room Challenge in the spring of this year and now I’m ready for another one. If you are not familiar with this event, over the course of 6 weeks participants have to transform an entire room and document it week by week. You can check back here every Thursday to view my progress and check out other ORC projects.

Over the next 6 weeks, I will be completely transforming one room in our house alongside many other bloggers and designers. I’ve chosen to makeover our guest bedroom. With the holidays approaching, it seems like the right time to tackle this room and make it more inviting for our guests. I’m sure many of you can relate to having a spare room that becomes the dumping ground for EVERYTHING. That is definitely the case here!

BEFORE PHOTOS

Here is what the room currently looks like. I am planning on keeping the nightstands, dresser, and the desk. They are all Craig’s List finds that I painted white a few years ago and they will be getting a little update with some new hardware. Other than that, everything else is going. Well… maybe the cactus can stay!

THE INSPIRATION

I am going for an earthy neutral vibe for our guest room. The room gets such great natural light that I want it to be light and bright with just a touch of mood. I am looking to add lots of texture and a few pops of black accents.

THE PLAN

This is what I am hoping to accomplish over the next 6 weeks:

  • Week 1: Before photos, design plan, mood board, and inspiration
  • Week 2: DIY skinny bench
  • Week 3: Painting the walls and prepping the bedframe
  • Week 4: Upholstered headboard
  • Week 5: Finishing touches and bedding
  • Week 6: The final reveal

So, what do you think of the plan? I’ll be sharing my progress on my Instagram feed and in stories, so you can follow along there as well. And be sure to check out the other ORC participants and their projects here.
