This week I am slowing things down and focusing on some of the little tasks. I’ve been working on updating the door hardware in the room as well as getting some of the painting done. I’ve also been experimenting with aging brass hardware. After a failed attempt, I decided to leave the knobs and pulls as-is for now.
THE DRESSER, NIGHTSTANDS, AND DESK
The dresser, nightstands, and desk are all Craig’s List finds that I painted white a few years ago. They are just classic Mid-Century Modern pieces that work in any space. I’ve finally decided on some hardware for them, which will be a nice way to spruce them up. I’ll be using a combination of these knobs and these pulls.
ADDING HARDWARE TO A DRESSER
Studio McGee has a great post on hardware placement and selecting the right type of hardware. I followed their tips for adding hardware to the dresser.
When drawers are 24″ or wider, we often like to double up on knobs or pulls. To place this hardware correctly, divide the drawer into thirds and place the hardware in the left and right portions of the drawer.”
-Studio McGee
I took a drawer and divided it up into thirds as they recommended. In the right and left 1/3 portions, I centered my pulls and marked where the holes needed to be drilled. It’s pretty simple after that— just drill the holes with the correct size drill bit based on your hardware and then attach them.
I am going to get back in the swing of things next week with a great DIY channel tufted headboard.
The final reveal week is quickly approaching! As always, you can check out my progress on my Instagram feed and in stories as well. See what the other ORC participants are working on here.
