Modern Vintage Boys Bedroom – One Room Challenge – Week 5

Last week was a big week getting the Ikea Svalnas hack completed. I am slowing things down this week and focusing on the dresser that will be going in the room. This dresser is one of those awesome Craig’s List finds. We’ve had it for many years now and it’s moved around from house to house and it has been in several different rooms now. It’s just a classic piece that works in any space. I thought I would switch it up this time, in this room, by adding some hardware to it.

ADDING HARDWARE TO A DRESSER

This dresser is perfect as-is, but I thought it would be a nice change to add some drawer pulls. I also figured it would make it easier for our son to open and close the drawers if it had some hardware on it.

Studio McGee has a great post on hardware placement and selecting the right type of hardware. I followed their tips for adding hardware to the dresser.

When drawers are 24″ or wider, we often like to double up on knobs or pulls. To place this hardware correctly, divide the drawer into thirds and place the hardware in the left and right portions of the drawer.”

I took a drawer and divided it up into thirds like they recommended. In the right and left 1/3 portions, I centered my pulls and marked where the holes needed to be drilled. It’s pretty simple after that— just drill the holes with the correct size drill bit based on your hardware and then attach them.

And there you have it— a dressed up dresser! I am going to get back in the swing of things next week with a great DIY artwork tutorial.

Be sure to check out the other ORC participants and their projects here. I’m always sharing my progress on my Instagram feed and in stories as well.
